Management of congenital aniridia-associated keratopathy: Long-term outcomes from a tertiary referral center
American Journal of Ophthalmology Nov 22, 2019
Yazdanpanah G, Bohm KJ, Hassan OM, et al. - In this retrospective, comparative case series involving 47 patients (92 eyes), mean age was 48.0 ± 18.0 years, researchers reported the results of medical and surgical management for congenital aniridia-associated keratopathy (AAK) over a long follow-up period. Utilizing recorded Snellen visual acuities, the visual acuity equivalent, approximate Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study letter score, was calculated. Limbal stem cell transplantation and Boston Keratoprosthesis have been often done on eyes with stages III-V. Findings suggested that individualized medical and advanced surgical interventions preserve and improve visual acuity with proper characterization and staging of AAK.
