Management of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU): A treat to target approach using a patient reported outcome
Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology Aug 29, 2017
Lima H, et al. Â Researchers aimed at assessing management of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). In the care of patients with CSU, treatment targets such as Urticaria Activity Score 7 (UAS7) ≤ 6 and UAS7 = 0 offered a benchmark for success. These treatment targets would allow the evaluation of a patient reported outcomes (PRO)Âbased treatÂtoÂtarget (T2T) approach in the care of these patients and the effect of this approach on improved patient care as seen in other chronic diseases.
Methods
- A Canadian task force, consisting of dermatologists, immunologists, and allergists developed principles and recommendations for a treat-to-target approach in CSU (T2T/CSU).
- Furthermore, on the basis of a systematic literature review and expert opinion, the task force formulated recommendations for therapeutic targets in CSU.
Results
- With symptom control as measured by UAS7 ≤ 6, targeting symptom remission (UAS7 = 0), the key features of these T2T/CSU recommendations were the use of a PRO as the principal target.
