Management and prognostic factors of epithelioid trophoblastic tumors: Results from the International Society for the Study of Trophoblastic Diseases database
Gynecologic Oncology Feb 01, 2019
Frijstein MM, et al. - Using Cox regression analysis, researchers identified prognostic factors, optimal treatment, and outcome from the world's largest case series of patients with epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT), an extremely rare form of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). Between 2001 and 2016, 54 patients diagnosed with ETT or mixed placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT)/ETT were included. Poor prognostic factors of ETT were advanced-stage disease and an interval of ≥48 months since the antecedent pregnancy. Surgery appears to be a satisfactory treatment option for those with early-stage disease with a shorter interval. Advanced-stage disease calls for a combination of treatment modalities. Due to its rareness, ETT should be treated at a center with GTN experience.
