Management and outcomes of severe pelvic fractures in level I and II ACS verified trauma centers

Jakob DA, Benjamin ER, Cremonini C, et al. - Via performing ACS-TQIP database study, researchers sought to determine the management strategies and outcomes of isolated severe pelvic fractures in level I and II ACS verified trauma centers. Inclusion of 2,629 level I and 1,277 level II patients was done. In level II centers, a significantly higher use of early blood products, less VTE pharmacological prophylaxis, longer ICU length of stay and higher overall complications and ARDS were reported in isolated severe pelvic fractures. Following were identified to be potential areas of quality improvement in level II centers: blood product utilization and pharmacological VTE prophylaxis.
