Mammographic non-dense area and breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women: A causal inference approach in a case–control study
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment Jun 15, 2018
García HAV, et al. - Using data from a population-based case–control study from Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, researchers evaluated the impact of the mammographic non-dense area and other density parameters on the risk of breast cancer. Four hundred seventy-seven female postmenopausal breast cancer cases and 588 female postmenopausal controls were involved in this analysis. Compared to the lowest quartile of mammographic non-dense area, the risk of breast cancer was 60% lower for the highest quartile. The authors discovered that non-dense area was an independent risk factor, after adjustment for dense area and other covariates, and inversely related with the risk of breast cancer. They reported that non-dense area did not help prediction beyond what percent density or dense area alone can provide.
