Malnutrition as predictor of survival from anti-retroviral treatment among children living with HIV/AIDS in Southwest Ethiopia: Survival analysis
BMC Pediatrics Dec 16, 2019
Oumer A, et al. – Researchers performed a retrospective cohort study including 242 children to estimate the impact of undernutrition on anti-retroviral therapy (ART) treatment outcomes among pediatrics living with HIV/AIDS in Southwest Ethiopia. A total of 243 records of pediatric ART were analyzed. In all, the researchers found that low baseline nutritional status at ART initiation, as evidenced by underweight and anemia, was predictive of survival among HIV-positive children. They called for improved, sustained, and focused nutritional screening, care, and treatment for pediatrics on ART follow up.
