Malnutrition and sarcopenia assessment in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease according to international diagnostic criteria, and evaluation of raw BIA variables

Respiratory Medicine Nov 22, 2017

de Blasio F, et al. - In chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, prevalence of malnutrition and sarcopenia was determined using international diagnostic criteria and their relationships with raw bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) variables were also studied. Findings demonstrated a relatively high prevalence of malnutrition and sarcopenia in this patient population, with some discrepancy between the two diagnoses. Researchers observed clear-cut changes in raw BIA variables in malnourished patients with systemic inflammation and sarcopenic patients.
