Malignant transformation of liver fatty acid binding protein-deficient hepatocellular adenomas: Histopathologic spectrum of a rare phenomenon
Modern Pathology Oct 09, 2019
Putra J, Ferrell LD, Gouw ASH, et al. - In this study, researchers identified the histopathologic spectrum of 13 liver fatty acid-binding protein-deficient hepatocellular adenoma cases from multiple centers, that exhibited malignant transformation (an exceptionally rare complication of hepatocyte nuclear factor 1α-inactivated hepatocellular adenomas). In individuals of female gender with multiple lesions, liver fatty acid-binding protein-deficient hepatocellular adenoma with malignant transformation was most often observed. Pseudoglandular architecture, cytologic and architectural atypia, with lack of steatosis, was exhibited by most of these lesions. Moreover, with the exception of disease recurrence in one individual, the natural history of these lesions was relatively benign.
