Malignant ovarian tumors during pregnancy: A multicenter retrospective analysis
Cancer Management and Research Nov 02, 2020
Wang L, Huang S, Sheng X, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining the clinical characteristics and management of malignant ovarian tumors during pregnancy. In addition, they investigated feto-maternal outcomes and determined the influential factors on the pregnancy outcomes. In this study, they analyzed 85 patients with ovarian malignancies during pregnancy treated at 12 tertiary hospitals between 2009 and 2019. They noted higher proportion of ovarian malignancies diagnosed in the first trimester in the abortion group vs that in the live birth group. Among a total of 67 live babies recorded in this study, 19 were premature babies and 1 was full-term newborn who died of respiratory distress. Findings suggest achievement of favorable outcomes among pregnant women with early-stage malignant ovarian tumors. Early-stage borderline ovarian tumors during pregnancy can be acceptably managed via conservative surgery. The gestational age of ovarian malignancy detection is identified to be the key determinant for pregnancy outcomes.
