Hatch JL, et al. - Experts conducted a large multi-institutional database study to ascertain the factors that affect outcomes for patients with malignant otitis externa (MOE). As per data length of stay (LOS) and mortality were seen to be impacted by several patient factors. The elderly, male gender, comorbidities, or cranial nerve involvement were the patients at risk for unfavorable outcomes. Sepsis, congestive heart failure, weight loss, and coagulopathy were the factors that were related to an increased rate of mortality.
