Malignancy risk stratification prediction of amorphous calcifications based on clinical and mammographic features

Cancer Management and Research Jan 15, 2021

Shen L, Ma X, Jiang T, et al. - The present study was performed to evaluate the possible factors affecting the malignancy risk of amorphous calcifications and to develop a predictive nomogram for stratification of malignancy risk. They retrospectively examined consecutive mammograms from between January 2013 and December 2018. Researchers noted traditional clinical characteristics; mammographic characteristics were calculated according to the 5th BI-RADS. They found 1,018 amorphous calcifications with final pathological results in 907 women; these had a malignancy rate of 28.4% (95% CI: 25.7%, 31.3%). The findings revealed that the distribution, maximum diameter, and quantity of calcifications independently predict malignant amorphous calcifications on mammography and can be easily gotten in the clinic. In this study, the nomogram developed for individualized malignancy risk stratification of amorphous calcifications has good discrimination performance.
