Major incident management by helicopter emergency medical services in South‐East Norway from 2000 – 2016: Retrospective cohort study
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Apr 06, 2020
Johnsen AS, et al. - Given that bringing specialised personnel to major incidents and transport patients to definite care is the goal of helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) and search and rescue helicopters (SAR) but their operational pattern is poorly defined, so, researchers intended to report the use of HEMS and SAR in major incidents in Norway, as well as assessed the feasibility of retrospectively gathering uniform data from incident reports. Findings revealed that major incidents were rare in Norway. A crucial role of HEMS and SAR in incident logistics, cooperation with other agencies, treatment and transport of patients, was highlighted and the inclusion of HEMS and SAR in major incident plans was recommended. Because data variables were not systematically combined into the database, so, retrospective data collection appeared challenging.
