Major complications independently increase long-term mortality after pancreatoduodenectomy for cancer
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery Sep 21, 2018
Sandini M, et al. – Researchers investigated whether major complications following pancreatoduodenectomy for cancer affect long-term survival. They reviewed records of all pancreatic cancer patients resected from 2007 to 2015. For this purpose, any grade-3 or higher 30-day complications, per the Clavien-Dindo Classification Major morbidity, were included as major morbidity. Worse long-term survival in pancreatic cancer was noted in correlation with major surgical complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy. This effect was evident irrespective of the receipt of adjuvant treatment.
