Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology Jan 23, 2020
AlTurki A, Marafi M, Proietti R, et al. - By performing this meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies and observational studies, researchers assessed the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction and mortality related to postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after non-cardiac surgery. The exploration of electronic databases from inception up to August 1st, 2019, was performed to identify all studies that described stroke or myocardial infarction in adult patients who had POAF after non-cardiac surgery. The studies were summarized using random-effects models. Overall 28 studies with 2,612,816 patients were analyzed. Findings revealed a markedly higher risk of stroke, myocardial infarction and all-cause death after non-cardiac surgery in relation to POAF.
