Maintenance of physical activity and sedentary behavior change, and physical activity and sedentary behavior change after an abridged intervention: Secondary outcomes from the ACTIVATE Trial
Cancer May 01, 2019
Lynch BM, et al. - Researchers assessed the impacts of the ACTIVATE Trial primary intervention (use of the Garmin Vivofit 2 activity tracker combined with a behavioral feedback and goal-setting session and 5 telephone-delivered health coaching sessions) on the maintenance of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary behavior changes nearly 12 weeks following the delivery of the intervention. In the waitlist control group, an abridged intervention (use of the Garmin Vivofit 2 only) was evaluated for its efficacy. To examine the secondary aims of the ACTIVATE Trial (n = 80; mean age = 62 years), they used a pre-post design. The possible ability of wearable technology to generate sustainable changes in MVPA and sitting time was indicated by the secondary outcomes from the ACTIVATE Trial. At least in the short term, wearable technology alone could be adequate to alter behavior.
