Magnesium sulfate reduced opioid consumption in obese patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy: A prospective, randomized clinical trial
Obesity Surgery May 18, 2018
Kizilcik N, et al. - Researchers examined the effect of magnesium sulfate on pain management for pain after sleeve gastrectomy operation in a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study. They determined serum magnesium levels before the operation, at the end of the operation, and at 24 h and identified a higher cumulative morphine consumption and pain scores in the control group than the magnesium group. Findings thereby revealed reduced postoperative pain and opioid consumption in association with perioperative use of magnesium sulfate among obese patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy operations.
