Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinomas – A rare variant of cholangiocarcinoma

Lin A, et al. - Researchers presented case reports of two patients with surgically-unresectable lymphoepithelioma-like carcinomas (LELCs), malignancies that appear histologically as undifferentiated epithelial cells accompanied by the lymphoid response, with cholangiocarcinoma characteristics. LELCs have been reported to have a strong association with Epstein-Barr Virus in a variety of organs including the liver, which may have hepatocellular or cholangiocarcinoma characteristics. In order to expand treatment options and increase survival rates, early diagnosis of LELC is key.
