Lymph node yield as a predictor of overall survival following inguinal lymphadenectomy for penile cancer
Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations Aug 29, 2018
Soodana-Prakash N, et al. - Authors evaluated if, in patients with penile cancer, a specific lymph node yield (LNY) impacts overall survival (OS). An independent predictor of OS was LNY following inguinal lymphadenectomy (ILND) for penile squamous cell carcinoma (pSCC). They noted a probable beneficial impact of total LNY of >15 following ILND on OS, and it could be the threshold for defining an adequate ILND. Significantly worse 5-year OS was seen in patients with LNY ≤15 vs those with LNY >15. An association of nodal density (ND) ≥12.5% with decreased 5-year OS vs ND <12.5% was also seen.
