Lymph node ratio as a prognostic marker in advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma after primary total laryngopharyngectomy
Clinical Otolaryngology Nov 25, 2019
Grasl S, Janik S, Parzefall T, et al. - Among individuals with advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, researchers assessed the prognostic value of lymph node ratio (LNR). Seventy-nine patients underwent total laryngopharyngectomy and adjuvant therapy between 1994 and 2018. In accordance with overall survival (OS), disease-specific survival (DSS), disease-free survival (DFS), locoregional and distant failure, LNR was determined and statistically compared. Data reported that the 5-year rates for OS, DSS and DFS were 45.6%, 73.4% and 56.9% respectively. Loco- regional failure or distant metastatic disease developed by 24.1% and 25.3% respectively. In patients with advanced laryngeal or hypopharyngeal carcinoma, increased LNR was significantly associated with shortened OS, DSS, DFS and higher locoregional and distant metastatic disease.
