Lymph node dissection in endometrial cancer and clinical outcome: A population-based study in 5546 patients
Gynecologic Oncology Apr 26, 2019
Pölcher M, et al. - Using data from the population-based Munich Cancer Registry, researchers reviewed the implementation of risk-adopted management of lymph node dissection (LND) in early endometrial cancer. The strategy indicates that systematic LND is recommended in high risk patients and should be omitted in low risk patients. A high rate of surgical under- and overtreatment was reported in relation to the implementation of this risk-adopted management of LND in early endometrial cancer in real-life. A significant benefit of a systematic lymph node dissection was not shown by corresponding survival data. There was no significant difference in the time to local recurrence, lymph node recurrence or distant metastases between patients with and without LND across all levels of risk.
