Lung ultrasound reclassification of chest X-ray data after pediatric cardiac surgery
Paediatric Anaesthesia Apr 07, 2018
Cantinotti M, et al. - Whether lung ultrasound is feasible after pediatric cardiac surgery and provides additional information over and above chest X-ray, was determined. Pleural effusion, atelectasis, and the number of B-lines were investigated. For each hemithorax, 3 areas (anterior/lateral/posterior) were assessed in the upper and lower halves of the chest (for a total of 6 scanning sites per side). For diagnosing common postoperative pulmonary conditions in children who underwent cardiac surgery, lung ultrasound was shown to be feasible and accurate. In a significant number of patients, lung ultrasound allowed reclassification of chest X-ray findings.
