Lung recruitment maneuvers for ARDS patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Respiration Jul 26, 2019
Cui Y, et al. - Researchers analyzed evidence from 10 trials with 3,025 patients, to determine the benefits of lung recruitment maneuvers (LRMs) on acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients. All prospective and randomized controlled trials including adult patients with ARDS in whom LRMs and non-LRM were compared, were considered for inclusion and were identified from PubMed, EMBASE, Medline, and the Cochrane Library. No significant reduction of mortality was reported in relation to LRMs in ARDS patients, nonetheless, LRMs could reduce the length of hospital stay and improve oxygenation on the third day in these patients. Since most studies were on multiple intervention exposures, cautiously interpreting the findings is necessary.
