Lung metastasis predicts better prognosis in metastatic colorectal cancer with mutated KRAS

Clinical Colorectal Cancer Jul 01, 2019

Margalit O, et al. - According to numerous clinical and genetic variables, researchers assessed prognosis in people with single site metastasis. For this investigation, 58,044 metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients with a synchronous single site of metastasis were identified using the National Cancer Database. Investigators found that the best prognosis was for individuals with lung metastasis, and then those with liver metastasis; the worst prognosis was seen in those with bone or brain metastasis. A better prognosis was seen in those with lung metastasis and mutant KRAS vs those with liver metastasis, irrespective of the primary tumor location or CEA levels. Overall, the authors concluded that single site lung metastasis is linked with better prognosis in mCRC, particularly among KRAS mutant tumors.
