Lung cancer screening eligibility and use with low‐dose computed tomography: results from the 2018 behavioral risk factor surveillance system cross‐sectional survey
Cancer Nov 24, 2020
Narayan AK, Gupta Y, Little BP, et al. - Using cross‐sectional survey data from the 2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System survey, this study was undertaken to calculate recent low‐dose chest computed tomography (LCS) use. Researchers included 26,910 participants, 9.9% of whom were eligible for LCS (95% CI, 8.8%‐10.6%). The primary endpoint included the percentage of participants (aged 55‐79 years with a smoking history of >30 pack‐years) who had LCS. Logistic regression analyses were applied to assess the relationship between LCS use and sociodemographic characteristics, adjusted for potential confounders, and accounting for complex survey design elements. Among eligible participants, LCS use remains low (19%)., though relative to already published studies, the outcomes of this study implied that LCS use is increasing. Receiving LCS was more likely among retired patients, patients with personal physicians, and patients who did not complete a high school education.
