Lumbar sympathetic block for intractable lower‐limb postherpetic neuralgia: Report of two cases
Pain Practice Oct 28, 2020
Ozturk EC, et al. - Sympathetic system activation is accepted to be involved in postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). While use of sympathetic blocks had been reported for upper‐extremity or face‐related PHN, there is no report concerning lower‐extremity PHN, as it is an uncommon region. Researchers here reported two cases of systemic drug‐resistant PHN in the lower limb that were relieved using lumbar sympathetic block. At least 50% reduction in numeric rating scale (NRS) scores were recorded in both patients at the end of 6 months. Based on findings, they suggest considering lumbar sympathetic block in the treatment of lower‐limb PHN.
