Lower sustained diphtheria and pertussis antibody concentrations in inflammatory bowel disease patients
Digestive Diseases and Sciences May 27, 2018
Caldera F, et al. - A cross-sectional study was performed comparing sustained vaccine-induced Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) antibody concentrations in a cohort of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients stratified by medication regimens with healthy controls (HC) who had received an adult Tdap booster. For the purpose of this study, 90 IBD patients and 20 HC took an interest. The present data indicated that IBD patients on anti-tumor necrosis factor α (TNF) agents had lower antibody concentrations to diphtheria and pertussis and suggesting a need for different Tdap booster schedules for IBD patients on anti-TNF therapy.
