Lower mean blood glucose during short-term intensive insulin therapy is associated with long-term glycemic remission in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes: Evidence-based recommendations for standardization
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Dec 07, 2017
Liu L, et al. - Physicians designed this study to define the optimal glycemic targets during the therapy by analyzing the effects of glucose levels on therapeutic outcomes. During short-term intensive insulin therapy, stricter glycemic control produced more remission despite self-manageable hypoglycemia. They proposed new glycemic targets that were about 0.4mmol/L lower than current ones as the long-term benefit outweighed short-term risks, based on glycemic parameters in the middle mean tertile.
