Lower cognitive function in older patients with lower muscle strength and muscle mass
Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders Jun 21, 2018
van Dam R, et al. - The relationship between cognitive functioning and muscle strength and muscle mass in hospitalized older patients were evaluated. Participants in the study were 378 subjects aged 70 years or older. By use of the Six-Item Cognitive Impairment Test (6-CIT), subjects were assessed for cognitive functioning at admission. This observational, prospective inception cohort study further supported the evidence for a connection between lower cognitive functioning and lower muscle strength and muscle mass. Researchers did not find relationships between cognitive functioning at admission and change in muscle strength and muscle mass during hospitalization.
