Low- vs high-dose intraoperative opioids: A systematic review with meta-analyses and trial sequential analyses
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Oct 16, 2019
Albrecht E, et al. - Whether high-dose intraoperative opioids vs a low-dose regimen in patients under general anaesthesia contributes to increased postoperative pain and hyperalgesia, was determined in this meta-analysis performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement guidelines. Researchers analyzed only those trials that evaluated pain outcomes and compared two distinct dosages of the same intraoperative opioid in patients under general anaesthesia. This study included a total of 27 randomised controlled trials involving 1,630 patients. In this study, low certainty of evidence demonstrating a rise in pain scores in the postoperative period in relation to high-dose intraoperative opioid use vs a low-dose regimen was generated.
