Low vitamin D levels are associated with high viral loads in patients with chronic hepatitis B: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Gastroenterology Jun 17, 2019
Hu YC, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis involving 814 chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients and 696 healthy controls, researchers assessed the vitamin D status in CHB patients vs healthy population, as well as the possible link between 25OHD and hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA levels. A systematic search to identify eligible studies was conducted by PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE and Cochrane Library until September 28, 2017. The findings showed significantly lower levels of vitamin D in patients with CHB vs healthy individuals and an inverse relationship between serum levels of vitamin D and HBV viral loads.
