Low vitamin D levels and prognosis in a COVID-19 pediatric population: A systematic review
QJM: An International Journal of Medicine Jul 26, 2021
Shah K, Pandya A, Saxena D, et al. - Researchers investigated how vitamin D level, risk and severity of COVID-19 infection are correlated in the pediatric population via performing a systematic review. After an initial search in PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and Google Scholar, they identified 2,261 articles, eight of which were eligible studies (two reviews) for inclusion in the systematic review. According to the findings, almost half of the pediatric COVID patients suffer from vitamin D deficiency. In addition, they clarified the correlation of low level of vitamin D with greater risk of infection and poorer outcome in pediatrics.
