Low variability in peak expiratory flow predicts successful inhaled corticosteroid step-down in adults with asthma

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Dec 11, 2017

Tsurikisawa N, et al. - This study was designed to identify the factors that could help predict treatment success when assessed before the initiation of asthma treatment or at inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) dose reduction. As per the findings, the following factors displayed usefulness for predicting that an adult's asthma will remain in control for months to years after a 50% reduction in the daily ICS dose: low peak expiratory flow variability over 1 week, high serum IL-10 level, and low serum IL-33 concentration.
