Low serum gastrin associated with ER+ breast cancer development via inactivation of CCKBR/ERK/P65 signaling
BMC Cancer Aug 22, 2018
Meng LL, et al. - The suppressive impacts of gastrin on breast cancer (BC) and its underlying mechanisms were determined in this study. Using chi-square test, analysis of the correlation between gastrin level and development of BC was carried out. Using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and nude mice models, the inhibitory effects of gastrin on BC were determined. Researchers also performed survival analysis by using the log-rank test. Based on the findings, an association between low serum gastrin and increased risk of ER+ (estrogen receptor) BC development was concluded. Generally, cholecystokinin B receptor (CCKBR)/extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK)/P65 signaling function was found to be tumor suppressive in ER+ BC; this suggested that therapies should focus on restoring, not inhibiting, CCKBR/ERK/P65 pathway activity.
