Low recurrence rate of head and neck basal cell carcinoma treated with Mohs micrographic surgery: A retrospective study of 1021 cases
Clinical Otolaryngology Jul 12, 2018
Kuiper EM, et al. - Experts assessed the recurrence rate of head and neck basal cell carcinoma (BCC) following Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) and wanted to develop a prediction model with significant risk factors for recurrence. All BCCs treated with MMS between January 1, 1995 and July 1, 2013 at the University Medical Center Groningen were included for this study. For primary and recurrent BCCs, low recurrence rates after MMS were seen in this large-scale retrospective study. Relatively higher recurrence rates were seen in residual BCCs treated with MMS. Compared to the risk of recurrence for primary non-aggressive BCCs, that for MMS-treated residual aggressive BCCs was more than four times higher.
