Low physical activity is associated with impaired endothelial function in patients with type 2 diabetes and controls after 5 years of follow-up
BMC Endocrine Disorders Sep 23, 2021
Baier JM, Funck KL, Vernstrøm L, et al. - After 5 years of follow-up, daytime physical activity is related to endothelial function in patients with type 2 diabetes and controls.
The sample consisted of 51 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes and 53 sex- and age-matched controls.
Physical activity at baseline was linked to the natural logarithm of reactive hyperemia index (lnRHI) after 5 years of follow-up in both type 2 diabetes patients and controls.
A 1 standard deviation (SD) increase in daytime physical activity corresponded to a 6.7 % rise in RHI.
There was no difference in lnRHI between diabetic patients and controls.
