Low lymphocyte count and high monocyte count predicts poor prognosis of gastric cancer
BMC Gastroenterology Oct 15, 2018
Feng F, et al. - In gastric cancer patients, researchers examined the prognostic ability of the absolute count of white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte and platelet by analyzing data of 3,243 patients treated with radical gastrectomy from September 2008 to March 2015. Findings suggested an association of high absolute count of neutrophil, monocyte and platelet, and low absolute count of the lymphocyte with poor prognosis of gastric cancer. However, independent prognostic predictors were only lymphocyte and monocyte count. Particularly in stage II/III gastric cancer patients, the combination of lymphocyte and monocyte could increase the prognostic value for gastric cancer patients.
