Low incidence of vertebral fractures in early spondyloarthritis: 5-year prospective data of the DESIR cohort
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Dec 21, 2018
Sahuguet J, et al. - Authors assessed X-rays of 432 subjects with inflammatory back pain highly suggestive of axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) to estimate the prevalence and incidence of radiographical vertebral fractures (VFs) over 5 years in early axial SpA under the DESIR (DEvenir des Spondylarthropathies Indifférenciées Récentes) cohort. They diagnosed a doubtful VF and needed a review in 19 subjects. Prevalent VFs (at the thoracic spine) were noted in 13 cases and 5 candidates possessing 1.15% incident VF were found with 7 fractured vertebrae at the thoracic spine indicating a low prevalence and incidence of VFs (3.0% and 1.15 %), respectively.
