Low GFR amplifies the association between coronary three-vessel disease and all-cause mortality
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Oct 14, 2021
Piscitelli P, D’Errico MM, Mirijello A, et al. - Risk of all-cause mortality linked with three vessels disease (3VD) was found to be significantly amplified by low eGFR (<60 ml/min/1.73m 2 ). Kidney disease is a risk multiplier for cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.
This analysis included 1,017 individuals undergoing coronary angiography; they were divided based on coronary artery disease severity: 3VD, and “no three vessels disease” (No 3VD).
The whole study sample was split into 4 groups (A, B, C, D), based on the presence/absence of low eGFR and/or 3VD.
Almost 2-time higher risk of death was found in participants with 3VD vs those without 3VD (adjusted HR= 1.61).
Among 4 subgroups, the risk of death was the highest in participants with low eGFR and 3VD (Group D) (adjusted HR=3.881).
