Low expression of pRB predicts disease relapse in early glottic cancer treated with transoral laser microsurgery
The Laryngoscope Nov 07, 2018
Lee LA, et al. - In patients with early-stage glottic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) who underwent transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) as the primary treatment, experts assessed correlations among the immunohistochemical expression of tumor markers, clinicopathological variables, and disease-free survival (DFS). They reviewed the records of consecutive patients with Tis–T2N0 glottic SCC who underwent TLM between August 1, 2012 and October 31, 2015. A potential biomarker for predicting disease relapse after primary TLM for early-stage glottic SCC was low pRB expression. High-risk patients who can subsequently undergo intensive management can be identified with this expression. Independent predictors of 3-year DFS included multivariate analysis, age, betel quid chewing, and pRB expression.
