Low endocan levels are predictive of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in severe sepsis and septic shock
Journal of Critical Care Jun 29, 2018
Gaudet A, et al. - Researchers performed this prospective single-center observational study including patients admitted for severe sepsis in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a French University Hospital between October 2014 and March 2016, to determine the predictive ability of paradoxically low endocan levels at ICU admission for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) within 72 h in severe septic patients. They succeed at predicting ARDS at 72 h with the help of low blood levels of endocan at ICU admission in a cohort of severe septic patients. They also noted that endocan vs LIPS (Lung Injury Prediction Score) displayed higher predictive values to predict ARDS.
