Low-dose atrial natriuretic peptide for prevention or treatment of acute kidney injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Critical Care Feb 15, 2019
Yamada H, et al. - Via an updated systematic review for randomized controlled trials (RCTs), researchers assessed if low-dose atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) can effectively prevent or treat acute kidney injury (AKI). They analyzed 18 RCTs (16 prevention and two treatment trials), identifying a significantly low incidence of new AKI and a significantly reduced renal replacement therapy (RRT) need in the low-dose ANP group vs the control group. These findings suggest a possible utility of low-dose ANP in preventing or treating AKI. However, the evidence gained is not strong enough to confirm ANP’s beneficial effects.
