Low-calorie sweeteners: Disturbing the energy balance equation in adolescents?

Sylvetsky AC, et al. - The goal of researchers was to investigate the relationship between low-calorie sweeteners (LCSs), energy intake, and weight in US youth. In this study, among adolescents, LCS consumption was associated with increased odds of obesity. This association was strikingly irrespective of total energy intake. Because of the limitations of self-reported dietary intake and the cross-sectional nature of this analysis, they suggested practicing caution while interpreting the findings.
