Low bone density and bisphosphonate use and the risk of kidney stones
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Sep 07, 2017
Prochaska M, et al. – This study was designed to investigate the history of low bone density and bisphosphonate use and the risk of incident kidney stone as well as the association with 24–hour calcium excretion. Findings emphasized low bone density as an independent risk factor for an incident kidney stone. Moreover, it exhibited an association with higher 24–hour urine calcium excretion. Bisphosphonate use was associated with lower risk of incident kidney stone, however, not independently associated with 24–hour urine calcium excretion, among participants with low bone density.
