Low Apgar scores at both one and five minutes are associated with long-term neurological morbidity
Acta Pediatrica May 01, 2018
Leinonen E, et al. - This trial analyzed the correlations between low Apgar scores at one and five minutes and long-term neurological impairments using population-based data on 399,815 singletons born in Finland in 2004-2010. Low Apgar scores exhibited a connection with cerebral palsy at one and five minutes, epilepsy and intellectual disability. It was discovered that only a low five-minute Apgar score was related to sensorineural defects. An increase was reported in the neurological impairment risks by low Apgar scores at both one and five minutes. However, 90.3% of children with persistent low Apgar scores did not disclose any impairment.
