Loss of Surfacten during bolus administration using a feeding catheter

Fujioka K, et al. – The researchers aimed to evaluate the inadvertent loss of Surfacten (S–TA) during instillation via feeding catheters with different bore sizes. They illustrated that routine air bolus flushing was effective in reducing S–TA loss in tubes. During instillation, 3 mL S–TA suspensions appeared to be more susceptible to inadvertent S–TA loss.
