Loss of peak vision in retinal vein occlusion patients treated for macular edema
American Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 10, 2019
Iftikhar M, et al. - Researchers examined patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents for long term visual and anatomic outcomes. In this prospective, interventional case series of patients with central RVO (CRVO) or branch RVO (BRVO), large improvements in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were observed after initiation of anti-VEGF injections. However, some visual gains were lost over time in many patients due to bouts of recurrent edema. They recommend sustaining suppression of VEGF to render optimal outcomes in RVO and to diminish treatment burden.
