Longitudinal echocardiographic and clinical follow-up of patients undergoing mitral valve surgery without concomitant tricuspid valve repair
Netherlands Heart Journal Oct 05, 2018
Jansen R, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers analyzed the role of mitral valve (MV) etiology as a potential risk factor for postoperative tricuspid regurgitation (TR) progression in patients with mild to moderate TR undergoing MV surgery without concomitant tricuspid valve (TV) repair. The echocardiographic and clinical results of these patients were assessed. They noted that, in this patient population, significant late TR was rare. MV etiology subgroups did not differ significantly, as shown by subanalysis. An inverse correlation of preoperative TR grade with male gender and change in TR was observed. One-year postoperative TR severity had no impact on mortality. Waiving concomitant TV repair seems safe in this specific patient cohort.
