Journal of Cystic Fibrosis Nov 03, 2017
Heltshe SL, et al. - In a contemporary, young CF cohort, researchers assessed the longitudinal link of incident, chronic and mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) in the current era of Pa eradication therapy. A median 5.6 years of follow up in early-diagnosed young children with CF reported Pa acquisition by two-thirds of patients, of those, chronic Pa and mucoid Pa were detected in 13% and 17%, respectively. Notably, 87% of young children who developed mucoid Pa did so before becoming chronically infected. This finding was contrary to researchers' hypothesis.
