Longitudinal assessment of the Unified Huntington's Disease Rating Scale (UHDRS) and UHDRS–For Advanced Patients (UHDRS-FAP) in patients with late stage Huntington's disease
European Journal of Neurology Jan 31, 2019
Winder JY, et al. - In patients with late-stage Huntington's disease, researchers analyzed whether the Unified Huntington's Disease Rating Scale (UHDRS) and UHDRS–For Advanced Patients (UHDRS-FAP) are sensitive enough to detect change over time. For this investigation, they evaluated 40 nursing home residents and patients receiving day-care with the UHDRS, UHDRS-FAP, and Care Dependency Scale. The assessment scales were completed again in 29 patients after 6 months. In late-stage Huntington's disease, the UHDRS-FAP motor and cognitive score, the functional domains of the UHDRS, and the CDS could detect disease progression. The use of these scores in nursing homes was, therefore, recommended to optimize care by monitoring the progression of diseases and evaluating the impact of clinical care interventions.
