Longitudinal analysis of risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in adulthood
Liver International Mar 21, 2019
Cuthbertson DJ, et al. - In this investigation involving 2,020 participants (aged 3-18 years), researchers sought to determine how the risk of adult non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is impacted by childhood body mass index (BMI) and metabolic health, as well as the change in BMI between childhood and adulthood. According to findings, overweight/obesity in children, was related to increased risk of NAFLD in adults, while metabolic health was not. However, by obtaining a normal body mass index by adulthood, the increased risk seen with childhood overweight/obesity can be mostly eliminated.
